Most of the Adriatic coast that a small boat cruises is in Croatia, from the Kvarner and Istria down through Dalmatia to Dubrovnik and the border near Montenegro. The same three winds show up everywhere, and they do not feel the same in every channel. This page is the map of the Croatia guides on this site. It is not a forecast. Today is the live board, read with the official marine forecast from DHMZ.
Start with these three. They explain most of what the board will name.
How to read the numbers those winds come in, and how a small boat decides to go or not, are the forecast guide and the go/no-go guide. The shape of the year is the season guide. None of them replace a warning.
Several of these coasts are national or nature parks. The park guide says what to check and links each park’s own site. It does not keep a price list, because the prices change. Confirm the current rules before you enter.
The board reads the forecast for your boat and, in Croatia, DHMZ wind warnings for the area. A warning stops the page from calling the day better than the warning allows. The observations and the warning files come from DHMZ. The forecast model is Open-Meteo, called from your own browser. The about page says what that means, and the privacy policy says what is sent. Slovenia and Montenegro have their own hubs: Slovenia and Montenegro.
If you only read one area guide before a week in Croatia, read the one for the harbour you will actually leave from, and the wind guide for the wind that week is known for. A July week is usually a Maestral conversation. A windy October week is usually a Bura or Jugo conversation. The season page says that without pretending to know your dates. The board, on the day, is allowed to disagree with the month.
Check today’s go/no-go for your boat
These guides describe typical patterns, not today’s weather. Navigate Boats is a planning aid, not a navigation tool: before you go, check the official marine forecast and warnings from DHMZ (Croatia), ARSO (Slovenia) or the Montenegrin hydrometeorological service, and use your own judgement.
