Navigate Boats is a free, non-commercial personal project run by Blaz Umek, Slovenia (“we”). These terms cover both ways to use it: the website navigate.boats and the Navigate Boats iPhone app. By using either you agree to them. The iPhone app is also covered by Apple's standard licence agreement, at the end of this page. Where the two differ about the iPhone app, that agreement applies. How we handle personal data is described in the Privacy Policy.
Navigate Boats' go/no-go verdicts, trip suggestions, routes and forecasts are automated guidance based on third-party weather models and can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. They are not an official forecast, not navigational advice, and not a replacement for charts, official marine warnings, local knowledge or your own judgment.
The position, distance and chart in the iPhone app are a plotting aid. A phone's location can be wrong, and the chart has no depths, no hazards and no official notices.
The skipper alone is responsible for deciding whether, when and where to go out, and for the safety of the boat and everyone aboard. Always check official sources before departure.
Navigate Boats works without an account, on the website and in the iPhone app. Saving trips to “My trips” is the one feature that needs one. An optional account (Google, Apple or email sign-in) is one account for both: on the website it syncs your setup and saved spots across devices, and your trips show on both. You must be 16 or older to create one, and you are responsible for keeping access to your email, Google or Apple account secure. You can delete your account at any time: My trips → Delete account on the website, or Account → Delete account in the iPhone app.
You keep all rights to what you enter, such as the names of your spots and trips. You give us a non-exclusive, free licence to store, process and show that content back to you, only as needed to run Navigate Boats. That licence ends when you delete the content or your account. Only enter content you have the right to use, and nothing unlawful.
Don't misuse Navigate Boats: no attempts to access other users' data, overload or disrupt the service, or bypass its limits; no automated bulk access. We may suspend or delete accounts that do this.
Navigate Boats is provided free of charge, “as is” and “as available”. We may change, pause or discontinue features, including accounts, at any time. If we shut accounts down, we will give reasonable notice so you can export your data first.
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from use of, or reliance on, Navigate Boats or its data, including decisions made at sea. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for intent, gross negligence, or injury to life, body or health caused by our fault.
On the website, weather and sea data come from Open-Meteo and DHMZ, and maps from Esri, OpenStreetMap, OpenTopoMap and OpenSeaMap contributors. In the iPhone app, forecasts come from Open-Meteo and the charts from Apple Maps. Each comes under its provider's own terms and licences, as credited on the website and in the iPhone app under Account → Data & licences.

If we change these terms materially, we update the date above and show a notice on the website before the change takes effect. If you keep using an account after that, you accept the new terms. If you don't agree, you can delete your account. The iPhone app opens this page for its terms, so it always shows them as they stand.
These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of Slovenia. If you are a consumer, this does not remove the protection given to you by the mandatory laws of the country where you live. Questions: contact@navigate.boats.
The Navigate Boats iPhone app is licensed under Apple's standard licence agreement: the Licensed Application End User License Agreement, which covers apps on the App Store whose developer files none of their own. Apple publishes it at apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula. Under it the licence to a third-party app is granted by that app's developer, here Blaz Umek, and not by Apple.
Earlier versions of the iPhone app came with a licence agreement of our own, which Apple asks for of an app that does real-time navigation. Version 2.2.0 has no Navigate tab and does no real-time navigation, so Apple's standard agreement covers it. Our own agreement comes back, with its full text on this page, when navigation does.
